Welcome To The District 3 fire training website!
The firefighter training delivered through local programs in Indiana, while excellent in most cases, had minimal uniformity. When Mitch Daniels was elected as Indiana’s Governor, he set a goal to develop a State Firefighter Training System that would raise the quality of training delivered at the local level while not increasing the contact hours or the cost.
With this goal in mind, the Indiana Firefighter Training System (IFTS) was established. The IFTS goal of developing a statewide Firefighter Training System is built around the IDHS district concept. The concept is to build regional capability at the lowest level to enhance delivery of services in a timely manner. The IFTS has 10 Indiana District Fire Training Councils elected by local fire departments. The District Training Councils completed a training needs assessment of the local fire departments and developed a training implementation training plan based on these regional needs.
